The below paper was consulted with one infantry officer who served during Imperial Iranian Armed Forces.
Trojan Horse Era
There was no doubt that United States of America was in proxy war with former Soviet Union and battle ground was in Afghanistan.
The United States of America was using Iran's air zone, as well as, land space to deliver deadly arsenal to the Afghan Mujahiden in Afghanistan. The US was using Tabas desert which was close to Iran and Afghanistan border. The former Soviet Union became aware of the above acute situation, and decided to take action against the US involvement in Afghanistan.
On April 24th, 1980 the former Soviet Union located the US airplanes and helicopters that they were carrying arsenal shipments to Afghan Mujahiden in their usual spot which was the Tabas desert for refueling. The former Soviet Union's army or Red Army launched rockets at the US airplanes, as well as, helicopters which destroyed the US airplanes and helicopters in the Tabas desert.
The US under administration of former democrat president Jimmy CARTER wanted to create this illusive image that the US did not have any relation with the regime in Iran, and the US began to spread propaganda that the US staged rescue operation for its embassy hostages in Tehran, Iran.
The regime in Iran was puppet of the US and began to capitalizing on the above notion that the US was planning to attack Iran, and Allah saved Iran from hands of infidels. However, there was no plan to attack Iran or to rescue US embassy hostages. It was just beginning of Trojan Horse Era.
The US claimed the hostage rescue mission went wrong had many flaws, and just to begin to explore some of the flaws:
1. All airplanes and helicopters needed to use Semnon desert which was close to Tehran. Tabas desert was close to the Afghanistan border.
2. If there was any intention of using airplanes to use deadly force it would be landed close by Tehran in order to carry out its mission. Otherwise, the airplanes would be prime target of Iran.
3. If the US wanted to topple the theocratic regime in Iran, the US would use three to four bomb carrier airplanes and would destroy Manzareh Qom which was the artery of arsenal storage. Also Manzareh Qom arsenal storage was made by the US so it was not like that the US was not aware where about the above storage.
All in all, the US was in Tabas desert because it had intention to deliver arsenal to the Afghan Mujahiden and had nothing to do with rescuing embassy hostages.
Thank you
