As the debate in Congress heats up about how to fix the broken health care system, it's important that the voices of Oregonians are heard. This week, Senator Merkley unveiled a new feature on his website called, "Oregon Stories," where Oregonians can share their stories about what's working in our system and what isn't.Senator Merkley will regularly feature a story submitted by an Oregonian on his website. In the future, Senator Merkley will feature stories on a wide variety of subjects of importance to Oregonians. If you've got a story that you'd like to tell, visit the Oregon Stories page on the website and submit your story today.Watch the videoShare your health care story.
Lowering Medicare Prescription Drug Prices
Last week, Senator Merkley wrote a letter urging his colleagues on the Senate Finance Committee to reform the Medicare Prescription Drug program to help bring down costs for seniors and for our country. Twenty-two senators signed on to support Senator Merkley's call to action to address the exorbitant costs of prescription medication. The following are several options that Senator Merkley believes we could pursue to reduce costs:
Allow Medicare to negotiate Part D prices;
Create a Medicare-administered Part D plan that would compete against existing private plans; and
Require pharmaceutical companies to pay rebates to Medicare if Medicare was not given the authority to negotiate prices directly which could save our country billions of dollars. Our seniors should never have to pick and choose what medicines they can afford. That's why it's important that Congress reforms the Medicare Part D program to lower the sky-high cost of prescription drugs as part of the effort to fix our broken health care system

Defining History of Iran
History of Iran is unlike history of other nations. For example, history of Canada would go back 200 years ago, and its major historical events would be World War One and Two. It has one neighbor which would be United States of America. Canada faced two cultural revolution, and suppressed those cultural revolution. One was Louis David Riel {Metis}, and last one would be the Quebec Separatist Marxist faction that during 1960's this faction used explosive and murdering a minister to separate from Canada. However, history of Iran is quite different than Canada and many other nations. Iran's history is full of wars and how how foreign nations invaded Iran with hostile intention of erasing Iran from surface of the earth, and still Iranian manged to survive any kind of brutality. Iranian during time of trial remained steadfast in their cause against injustice which was taking place, and did not flinch, and today is not any different than past trial. One more time Iran is put on trial, as foreign nations like Russia, China, England, France, Germany, US and Canada are trying to catch fish from a murky water, there should not be any doubt that in long run, Iranian will topple the establishment in Iran with their own hands because this is history of Iran, it is about triumph.
Peace is Answer for Iran
Since June 12th, 2009, the world has witnessed Iran to go through another French Revolution, there is this cleric wealth minority class which is ruling destitute masses in Iran with iron fist, and the theocratic regime in Iran is crushing any kind of dissent voice with maces, even the regime in Iran did not show mercy to two unborn children in their mother's wombs. Thus, the atmosphere in Iran is not a pleasant one. In fact, people's blood is boiling at a very fast pace against this establishment in Iran in order to seek vengeance. However, revenge is not answer, and answer to Iran is coming from the Holy Book of Bible. As the good book says from Luke 6, 29, 30 “you know that you have been taught an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you not to try to get even with a person who has done something wrong to you. When someone slaps your right cheek, turn and let that person slap your other cheek. If someone sues you for your shirt, give up your coat as well. If a soldier forces you to carry his pack one mile, carry it two miles. When people ask you for something, give it to them. When they want to borrow money, lend it to them.”Therefore, Iranian needs to understand that this minority class of evil monger is following its own natural destruction path of life, and not to follow this evil's path, but to follow path of life which would lead Iran toward salvation.
Clash Within a System in Iran
It is very usual for organize crime at some point in future to clash at each other, and want to eliminate potential threat. In case of the theology state in Iran is not any different than mob mentality that at some point in future one side wants to eliminate the other side. The June 2009 election in Iran was like a soap opera, there was Mahmoud AHMADI NEZHAD, who was acting as an evil guy, and began to expose corruption of the regime in order to gain sympathy of subjects in Iran. On the other side of reality, Mir Hussein MOUSAVI began to act as a defender of subjects in Iran, and refuted all AHMADI NEZHAD's allegation that this normative control model in Iran was not corrupt, and as a matter of fact, there was room to improve the theocratic regime in Iran. He spoke from hearts, and minds of Iranian that Iran needed justice, as he would be like a white knight shiny armor, and would save the day, as he would execute justice in Iran. There was a reality on horizon to ponder that MOUSAVI and RAFSANJANI are keep saying that the current establishment in Iran is not up-holding to initial principles of 1979 Revolution and Khomeini. Interesting Khomeini right after triumph of 1979 Revolution, he told everyone shut-up or I kill you. The regime in Iran has been murdering dissidents since 1979, and MOUSAVI and RAFSANJANI were part of process of purging dissidents, and how would they allow opposing voice to express their voices against the system? Since 1979, Iran's wealth has been plundered by the ruling class of mullah in Iran as MOUSAVI firmly refuted all allegations that there was no thievery by the ruling class of the mullah in Iran? Therefore, MOUSAVI and RAFSANJANI and anyone else from this system has no plan to lead Iran toward bright and prosperous future. Tribute letter to Parsi Zoroastrians and their loyalty towards Iran's old culture

All words of tribute and respect towards Parsis Zoroastrians are not enough to express their love and loyalty of towards Persia's ancient culture and religion. Every Iranian should consider Pareis because they represent the greatness of Iran and its ancient civilization and culture.

We should admit that Parsis are most loyal to Iran and its ancient religion and culture because they suffered and sacrificed a lot to survive Iran's ancient religion and culture, so everybody of us should show his tribute and consideration towards Parsi Zoroastrians and greet them from his deepest heart because they preserved 8000 years old religion and culture of Persia and kept loyal for them, as well as some Zoroastrian Iranians kept loyal to their ancestors' religion and culture and rejected to surrender to Islam and its culture as their co-religious Parsis did.

Parsis are a precious model for Iranians in loyalty and sacrifice for Iran and its ancient and great civilization, the words become unable to express just a little part of Parsis' loyalty and endurance towards Persia's old religion and culture, but unfortunately Iranian officials ruling Iran now, can't feel, the way we feel towards Parsis because have not had any love to Iran or loyalty to its ancient civilization and culture because they are not pure Iranians and don't affiliate to Iran and its ancient civilization, but those officials, who rule Iran now, are just Arabs invaders who their old ancestors came to Iran invading to Zartosht's great land before 1400 years, and destroying greatest civilization and religion (Zoroastrianism) which enriched the mankind ideology with different knowledge sciences and culture at the time, and replacing all these great civilization and culture of Persia with Islam's civilization and culture they (Arabs) brought with them from desert of Saudi Arabia to Persia, but there is big optimism with new youth Iranian generation who begun realize well that their original religion (Zoroastrianism) and culture are better to be accepted for them than Islam and Arabs' invader culture.

Statement of Reza Pahlavi concerning The State of MKO Members at Camp Ashraf

My dear compatriots,It appears that certain Iraqi authorities, with the support of the Islamic Republic, have carried out an operation against Camp Ashraf and a confrontation between armed Iraqi forces and the camp’s residents has left several Iranians dead and many more injured. At this time, we must remind the Iraqi authorities that no person may be denied his or her human rights because of his or her political or religious beliefs. More specifically, no refugee may be returned to his or her nation of origin if such return will place him or her at risk of being tortured or treated unjustly, illegally, or inhumanely, or if such return will place his or her fate in the hands of a court that is unacceptable under international legal standards. My compatriots,In light of the Islamic Republic’s 30-year record of violating and trampling upon the principles of human rights, and especially in light of the regime’s barbaric and brutal behavior towards the innocent people of Iran during recent events, it is reasonable to suspect that the fate of any MKO members turned over to the Islamic Republic will not be any different than the fate of other opponents of the regime. In light of these realities and current circumstances, I hope and expect that the Government of Iraq will not permit the members of the MKO presently in Ashraf to be forcibly returned to the Islamic Republic.Reza Pahlavi

Senator John Barrasso

Dear Friends,
I just got back from visiting Wyoming’s Army National Guard troops in Kuwait. They are there to defend our freedom-- and they are making us proud. I visited with hundreds of Wyoming soldiers at three bases – Arifjan, Camp Virginia, and Ali Al Salem. On any given day, our Wyoming troops log over 10,000 miles transporting equipment and supplies around Kuwait and throughout Iraq. Each of the soldiers wanted you at home to know that they are doing well, trying to get adjusted to the 117-degree heat and are settling in for the year ahead. The people of Wyoming have always supported our troops and their families. Make sure to continue to reach out and involve the families of soldiers in events throughout our communities. Invite them to community and church socials, involve them in community activities, and lend a helping hand. Our brave Wyoming service men and women will be grateful to know their families continue to be supported by folks at home.

Best wishes,
U.S. Senator John Barrasso

US Consulate in Jerusalem website assumes Jerusalem is Palestinian, says nothing about Israel

You must go immediately to the website of the US Consulate in Jerusalem. Let me know whether you can find ANYTHING about Israel. As of 11:00 p.m. EST, every single entry/article/announcement is about the "Palestinians" or the "West Bank." NOTHING about Israel. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. In addition, there is an option to link to an Arabic version of the site but not one for Hebrew.
Does this bother you? If so, tell Secretary of State Clinton in an email, through her site here, and also tell everyone you know. (hat tip Lori Marcus, Z Street)
Devastating. Read the "about section" here, it's as if Israel never existed. (hat tip Dave)

Playing Racial Politics With “The Race”

Playing Racial Politics With “The Race”By: Tom Tancredo Friday, July 31, 2009
The Democrats' support of Sotomayor and the National Council for La Raza shows us what Obama’s “post racial” America really looks like.
st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) }
Last week, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy spoke out against critics of Sonia Sotomayor as playing “racial politics.” According to Leahy, "You have one leader of the Republican party call her the equivalent of the head of the Ku Klux Klan… That's what comes across. It comes across that if you belong to a group that tries to help Hispanics... somehow you're suspicious.”Usually confirmation hearings are supposed to be about getting specifics about the nominee. But Leahy chose to make vague accusations against unnamed critics of the nominee while defending an unnamed organization. It was apparent to DC insiders that the “group that tries to help” Hispanics is the National Council for La Raza (The Race) and the “Republican Leader” is me. It isn’t surprising that he didn’t want to use our names. After all, it’s difficult to defend someone belonging to a group called “The Race” by accusing her opponents of playing racial politics. The last thing the Democrats want is for the American people to know about the National Council of La Raza, their radical agenda, and Sotomayor’s association with the group.Sotomayor is a member of La Raza and her comments about “Wise Latinas” being surperior to white men appeared in the La Raza Law Journal. The National Council of La Raza bills itself as “the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States” which works through “its network of nearly 300 affiliated community-based organizations.” Among these affiliates are several chapters of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (Chicano Student Movement of Aztlán) who La Raza helps fund. Aztlán is what radical “Mechistas”—as they refer to themselves on La Raza’s website—call the American Southwest, which they claim still belongs to Mexico. Their slogan is "Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada" meaning “For The Race everything, outside the Race nothing.” One chapter says on La Raza’s site that their mission is “empowerment of our gente and the liberation of Aztlán.”La Raza receives tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to set up charter schools like the Aztlán Academy of Tucson where they fly the Mexican Flag, but not the American Flag and teach students “Aztec Math.” In 1994, La Raza gave their “Chicano of the Year” Award to Jose Angel Guitierrez who once said, “We have got to eliminate the Gringo, and what I mean by that is that if the worse comes to the worst, we have got to kill him" and that “our devil has pale skin and blue eyes.” Of special importance when considering a Supreme Court nominee is La Raza’s position on a variety of policy and legal issues. They support driver’s licenses, in state tuition, and amnesty for illegal aliens. They say that virtually all enforcement of our immigration laws on the state level is unconstitutional. They filed amicus briefs in favor of racial preferences, and in favor of benefits for illegal aliens. They led the legal attack against Hazelton, PA for their Official English and anti-illegal alien measures. At the very least, Sotomayor should explain where she stands on these issues. While questioning her connections to radical left wing groups is off limits, attacking conservatives for belonging to mainstream organizations like the Federalist Society is fair game for the Democrats. When Larry Thompson was up for Deputy Attorney General in 2001, Leahy questioned his role with the organization. Sen. Richard Durbin denounced the group as a “far right” group who he implied might want to bring back the Dredd Scott decision upholding slavery. The Federalist Society is nothing but a debating and social organization for conservative and libertarian law students and attorneys. In contrast to La Raza, it takes no position on legal cases or policy. If membership in the Federalist Society is a problem for the Democrats, imagine how they would react if Samuel Alito or John Roberts belonged to a group called “The National Council of the White Race” who honored a man who once said “We have got to eliminate Latinos, and what I mean by that is that if the worse comes to the worst, we have got to kill him," as “white man of the year.” They wouldn’t pass the bar, much less become Supreme Court justices. But when a Hispanic or Black holds these views, we need to celebrate it for its diversity. The Democrats' support of Sotomayor and La Raza shows us what Obama’s “post racial” America really looks like. Designated minority victim groups are free to promote their anti-white racist agenda, while any whites who fight back are playing “racial politics.”

Dear Friends,It’s hot out there, and I’m not talking about the record-breakingtemperatures in BC. Everywhere I go people are stopping me in the street totell me how upset they are about recent developments. How many of you remember the BC Liberals promising to run a big deficitwhile making deep cuts to health, education and other public services? And how many of you remember them promising to impose a $4 billion sales taxon everything from haircuts to funerals to movie tickets to airfare?I don’t remember it either._That’s because they chose not to tell us the truth._Just weeks after an election where they promised the deficit would be nolarger than $495 million, they’d protect health and education funding, andthey WOULD NOT impose a new Harmonized Sales Tax – they’re doing theopposite. The HST alone is going to cost British Columbians – you – a lot of money, just when families need a break._When it comes into effect in 2010, you’ll be paying a lot more_ forvitamins, food, meals at restaurants, funerals, real estate, theatretickets, renovations, school supplies, bicycles and more. It’s a regressive tax that makes it harder for families to make ends meet. And it’s going to kill jobs and hurt small businesses just when the BCeconomy needs a break. It’s another broken promise from a government that is more arrogant anduntrustworthy than ever.Gordon Campbell didn’t tell us the truth. He didn’t consult with the public. He simply hasn’t got a mandate to impose a tax that will cost consumers $4billion over three years. The HST will take effect on July 1, 2010. That gives us less than one yearto stop it._Here’s how we start: [1]sign my on line petition today._ Links: 1. http://www.bcndp.ca/hstpetitionIn the weeks to come, I’ll be doing everything I can to hold Campbellaccountable for this broken promise – and his broken promises about thedeficit and funding for important services like health and education. In the meantime, please take a few seconds to click this link and add yourname. If enough British Columbians speak out we can stop the HST.For years, governments of all stripes in BC have recognized the need toencourage environmentally responsible actions by giving tax breaks onbicycles and energy conservation equipment like insulation and solar powerequipment. But not this government. Oppose the Campbell Government's Sales Tax Grab

Gordon Campbell's $4 billion tax hike is going to hit you hard.
The BC Liberals didn't tell the truth about the HST.
Before the election, Campbell promised he wouldn't impose a Harmonized Sales Tax, or HST. But just days after the vote he broke that promise, without any consultation.
In less than a year, Campbell's HST will cost you a lot of money on everyday goods and services, kill jobs and hurt the BC economy just when working families need a break.
Tell Gordon Campbell what you think -- sign the petition today.
THE PETITION TO STOP THE BC LIBERAL HST
We, the undersigned, believe Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals didn't tell the truth about the HST, didn't consult, and don't have a mandate to impose this $4 billion tax hike. We call on the Campbell government to scrap plans to implement the HST in 2010.

Senator Tom Udall

Setting the Record Straight on Healthcare
There's a lot of noise in the healthcare debate right now. All too often the voices of reason are drowned out by the misinformation of special interests and those who believe that inaction is the answer. In reality, the basic objectives of healthcare reform are very clear. Here's a breakdown of some of the myths that I've been hearing: MYTH: Health reform will force me to accept a public plan. FACT: If you like your health plan, you can keep it. If you like your doctor, you can keep her. All health reform will do is help lower your costs by cutting wasteful administrative spending and boosting competition. MYTH: Congress will not be forced to accept the public health insurance plan that they will force on everybody else. FACT: This myth gets it exactly backwards. Right now, members of Congress have access to a quality health care plan that other Americans cannot buy into. One thing Barack Obama and I want to do is to give Americans and small businesses the ability to buy into a plan like the one I have. We also want to give all Americans access to a quality, affordable public health insurance option. No Americans will be forced to accept the public option, but right now millions of Americans are forced to accept no option. MYTH: A public health insurance option will put private plans out of business. FACT: More than 30 states, including New Mexico, offer state employees a choice between private insurance and a state-backed public option. These states have not seen either private or public plans forced out of the market. Their employees just have more options. MYTH: Health reform will put a bureaucrat between me and my doctor. FACT: Once again, supporters of the status quo have it exactly backwards. Right now, if you have private insurance, a private bureaucrat is paid to decide whether you can get the care your doctor recommends. Worse, the insurance company that person works for will often make more money if he denies your claim. Health reform will not add a government bureaucrat to your private plan. It will make it illegal for that private bureaucrat to deny you coverage because your illness was the result of a preexisting condition. And it will make sure that your insurance company has to compete for your business, so they are less likely to make you jump through hoops just to get the care you need. MYTH: Health reform will hurt Medicare. FACT: Health reform will do a number of things to help Medicare recipients. As part of discussions surrounding health reform, the drug industry has pledged to provide seniors facing the "donut hole" gap in Medicare drug coverage with a discount of at least 50 percent, saving thousands of dollars for some seniors. Health reform will also simplify the application process for financial support for low-income seniors. It will also increase premium subsidies and decrease some copayments for Medicare's drug benefit. Finally, health reform will protect Medicare doctor payments and institute a number of measures to cut bureaucratic hurdles and improve the quality of care. Medicare is more than a program; it is a commitment that America makes to its senior citizens. I would never support a health reform plan that betrays that commitment. MYTH: Health reform will hurt small businesses and the economy. FACT: Actually, small businesses who want to provide health insurance will be some of the primary beneficiaries of health reform. Small businesses and individuals now pay an additional 30 percent in health care costs to cover the price of red tape, compared to just seven percent for large businesses. By helping small businesses to work together, health reform will cut costs dramatically and make it possible for small businesses to provide employees with health care just like the big ones. Health reform will also provide tax credits to small businesses, allowing them to provide the care their employees deserve. Right now, American car companies pay roughly $1500 per car in health care costs for their employees. Japanese car companies pay about $150. Health reform won't just make America healthier; it will make us more competitive in the global marketplace. That means more jobs for American workers and a more prosperous future for our children. That's it for this Udall Update. Stayed tuned for more, or better yet, visit me on the web at your favorite social networking site. Cheers! Tom

Comment on Saddam's secret police in action video

From this video, you can see clearly that there is two classes or kinds of Iraqis, first kind are the executioners who looked in this video how they torture their fellow Iraqi armless prisoners, and second class are the prisoners or tortured people like those in this video I am not trying defend those prisoners as much as I just want give you a simple example from the characters of this video about the nature of Iraqi personality during Saddam's rule time. According to the characters of this video I can classified Iraqis into two kinds of man, first man are peaceful or good Iraqis and second kind are evil or bad Iraqis who were ready to hurting or killing their fellow citizens for money or obtaining the fame and influence within their community from Saddam's regime even if that was on kill or torture their fellow peaceful citizens in that brutal way appeared in this video, maybe you would say that those torturers appeared in this video were just coerced to carry out the orders of Saddam, but this is not only reason those torturers let to do so because those torturers if they have no had the desire of kill or torture their fellow people, they would never have volunteered as members in Saddam's secret police because they were know well that who choose to work for secret police, he would get orders to killing innocent Iraqis in brutal way.

Of course anybody was work in Saddam's secret police or intelligence, he was coerced to carry out the orders of Saddam otherwise he would endanger himself, but this is not the only excuse which let those executioners to torture their fellow Iraqis in this way unless they have the nature and fondness to kill or torture their fellow citizens to get money and high positions within their community. Now Saddam was gone, but Iraqi community still contain a lot of those bad Iraqis who are ready to killing or hurting their fellow citizens just for money without any sense that's why you can see everyday a lot of bombs and explosions that target spirits of peaceful Iraqis, so bad Iraqis kill peaceful Iraqis for money same this view appeared in this video, we can see it happen again now after Saddam's death. Bad Iraqis kill their fellow peaceful Iraqis only for money, as Saddam was given money and influence for members of secret police to kill or torture those prisoners in this video, other sides or forces now give money for same those evil-natured Iraqis to kill their fellow peaceful citizens. From above we can conclude that there are two kinds of Iraqis, first kind are bad Iraqis and second are good and peaceful Iraqis where Saddam depraved Iraqi morals and made bad Iraqis are more than good Iraqis within the community, I don't mean when I say bad Iraqis are only like those torturer appeared in this video, but the word of "bad Iraqis" also include big class of Iraqis who learned to get their daily living by crocked ways by hurting or deceiving their fellow citizens for gaining money, such as corruption and bribery where these things became a rooted nature in personality of big class of Iraqis and they couldn't change this nature even after new Iraqi government had improved their living conditions regarding salaries where you can see now most Iraqi employees in government firms don't process your legal paperwork unless you pay them money, so this thing became a nature rooted in their personality and they couldn't change this bad nature even after their monthly salaries had became very good now in comparing at Saddam's time.

From this video, we can conclude of how far the bad Iraqi community Saddam created and how Saddam depraved Iraqi personality and morals and turned Iraqis to barbarian community in which powerful Iraqi guy eats his fellow peaceful or weak guy without mercy as it seems in this video.

Iranian ordered to transfer Web address to Facebook

Social networking site Facebook Inc. has won control of a Web address using its name and the country suffix .ir for Iran. The United Nation's World Intellectual Property Organization says current owner Majid Karimian Ghannad of Yazd, Iran, has to transfer the domain name - facebook.ir - to the U.S.-based site. The Geneva-based UN agency says Mr. Ghannad registered the domain in bad faith and had no right to the name. According to the ruling published yesterday he claimed to want to use it for selling books. Facebook is among a number of social networking sites blocked by Iranian authorities. Internet users are still able to access it by using anti-filtering software. The company recently launched a Farsi language version of the site.

Smugglers Using Explosives Have Caused Damages to the Ancient Rock Tomb of Sorkh Deh

LONDON, (CAIS) -- Smugglers using explosives in search of artefacts have caused damages to the ancient rock tomb of Sorkh Deh located in the town of Hersin in the Western Iranian province of Kermanshah, reported the Persian Service of ISNA on Sunday.

In a contradictory statement Amirali Hosseini-Khani head of Hersin CHHTO denied any explosions or damages to the ancient site saying: “the explosion sounds came from the nearby mines and the rock tombs are in perfect condition.”

He added “when we were informed about the explosion we attended the site and found no evidence of any damage and therefore the news was just propaganda and a lie.”

This is while the governor of Hersin confirmed the explosion and damage to the site.

“On Wednesday evening we were informed that there were explosion sounds coming from the rock tombs in the Eshaqvand Area and police were deployed to investigate the claim”, said Bahman Qorbani, governor of Hersin.

Qrobami continued “the initial invitations indicted that the smugglers did not use significant amounts of explosives and thus damage caused to the invaluable site were not that serious.”

With regard to the extent of damages he stated: “only in Shorkh Deh rock tomb a few stones were displaced which is not serious.”

He concluded “it is unfortunate that the site is left unprotected and is only occasionally visited by the local police.”

The Sorkh Deh rock tomb is located 25 kilometres southwest of Hersin and northeast of Deh-no Village in Kermanshah Province.

The Sorkh Deh in Persian means “red village” is one of the many rock tombs in the area, which dates back to either the late Median (728-550 BCE) or early Achaemenid (550-330 BCE) dynastic eras.

According to some Sorkh Deh Romb was the resting place of Smerdis the youngest son of Cyrus the Great and brother of King Cambyses II.

Discovery of Sasanian Layer in the Persian Gulf’s Port of Siraf

LONDON, (CAIS) -- During the archaeological research at the ancient port of Siraf in the Persian Gulf, archaeologists have identified Sasanian layers and artefacts near the Congressional Mosque, reported the Persian service of CHN.

“After opening a trench 50 meters away and on the northern section of the Siraf’s Congressional Mosque, we have discovered historical layers dating to the Sasanian to post-Sasanian periods [224-850 CE]”, said Mohammad Esmaili, director of archaeological research at Siraf.

The congregational mosque at Siraf was built in the 9th century on the remains of a Parthian and Sasanian dynastic building.

The archaeological research commenced in Siraf two months ago with a number of objectives in mind, mainly to identify the formation of the port in the ancient times till the 10th century and concluding the previous research seasons.

Among the discovered artefacts are a number of amphorae, dating back to the Sasanian dynasty (224-650 CE), similar to those archaeologists discovered in the Port of Busheher as well as in shipwrecks in the Persian Gulf. One of these amphorae carries the potter’s signature.

“Apart from amphorae we have unearthed a number of Sasanian glazed as well as decorated ceramics which are currently being studied”, said Esmaili.

With regards to future archaeological research in the area, Esmaili said: “north of Siraf, there is a fortress known as Kohneh (ancient/old) in which last year we discovered artefacts and gathered many invaluable information. The evidence suggests the fortress is Sasanian and could possibly be the renowned Sūrbāng Fortress that many early Islamic historians have mentioned in their accounts.”

The ruins of the historical port of Siraf (Sīrāf) are located on the north shore of the Persian Gulf part of the Iranian province of Bushehr. Its ruins are approximately 220 km east of Bushehr and 380 km west of Bandar Abbas. The foundations of Siraf dates back to the Parthian dynasty (248 BCE -224 CE) which was destroyed around 970 after a long decline.

According to David Whitehouse, one of the first archaeologists to excavate the ancient port, the marine trade between the Persian Gulf and the Far East began to flourish at this port because of the vast expansion of trade in consumer goods and luxury items at the time.

The first contact between Siraf and China occurred in 185 CE during the Parthian dynasty and by the 4th century it was a prosperous port. However, over time trade routes shifted to the Red Sea and Siraf was forgotten.

Mullah's Regime abused Iranian woman in the name of religion:

Temporary marriage's or sighe phenomenon became common state in Iran after Mullah's regime had legalized this kind of marriage and made it a legal marriage throughout Iran through establishing offices to arranging that marriage for persons who seek it. Mullah's regime appointed clerics in these offices to intervene in conducting this marriage for persons who seek prostitution under that marriage.

If we contemplated well in concept of the temporary marriage or sighe Mullah's regime created and gave legal religious feature, we would find that this marriage is a kind of masked prostitution women were used through due to their hard social and economical conditions to practice a sex with men who seek it where most women, who live under hard social and economical conditions within their community, are pressured on under these bad conditions to practice this kind of marriage or prostitution for money where this marriage generally don't last than 1 hour to several hours.

On other hand, women, who practiced this marriage for many times, become unapproved by men for permanent marriage and get discrimination in getting opportunities to the permanent marriage than their peers of others women among their community in this case, those women became as fair slaves who were used only for sex in the old ages when it was not allowed for those fair slaves to emancipating themselves from the slavery and choosing life partner. So under this kind of marriage, mullah's regime turned Iranian woman into sex slave is sold and bought as women were sold and bought in the dark ages, this case is not strange for Islamists ruling Iran today as their old Arabic predecessors enslaved Persian women and transferred them to Arabic regions to be sold in public markets when they invaded Persia before 1400 years ago, mullahs ruling Iran now do again same thing their Arab ancestors did before 1400 years with Iranian women.

Mullah regime's goal of temporary marriage (sighe) is using Iranian women for prostitution to saturating the sexual desires for clerics and top officials underground and giving the legitimate feature for these sexual abuses clerics and top officials committed against Iranian women in the name of religion. Mullah's regime made that marriage as an approach for clerics, top officials and members of revolutionary guards to getting the cheap and illegal sex. These are the rights mullah's regime gave to Iranian woman where that regime turned Iranian woman from free woman in Shah's time into female slave who is pressured on by using her hard social and economical conditions to practice the prostitution or temporary marriage to satisfying the base sexual desires for clerics and top officials in Iranian government in the process of. There are many scandals that exposed implicating clerics and top officials in Mullah's regime in abusing Iranian women sexually by using the bad living conditions for those women resulted from poverty and homelessness and family problems where one of these scandals for Iranian women abuse is which happened during Khatami's presidency of Iran when it was exposed about implicating top members in the revolutionary guards and officials in abuse prisoners women in one of corrections which is located in Karj city where some of those prisoners women were taken in night from that correction by vehicles of revolutionary guards and governmental cars into houses of those officials to saturating their sexual desires and they were returned to correction in the morning.

In the name of temporary marriage and what included that marriage from negative goals, so Iranian woman's market became common and cheap market for aliens coming to Iran and looking for cheap and illegal sex with women under the name of temporary marriage where a lot of aliens became come to Iran these days to buy sex under this kind of marriage being unable to get this kind of prostitution or marriage in their own countries. Most those aliens, who come to Iran for temporary marriage, are from Arabic countries supported to mullah's regime, such as Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.

A Parthian Tower Discovered in Ardebil Near Arran Border

LONDON, (CAIS) -- A group of archaeologists working in the ancient fortress of Ultan in Pars-Abad near the Arran border (nowadays the Republic of Azerbaijan) have identified a tower dating back to the late Parthian dynasty, reported the Persian service of CHN.

The team led by Abdorreza Mohajerinejad is currently working south of the citadel to unearth the Parthian tower.

“The fortified Untān citadel, located in the southeast of Pārs-Ābād in the Moghān Plain and covers an area of 40 hectares,” said Mohajerinejad

According to Mohajerinejad the fortified citadel was constructed in the late Parthian dynastic era (248 BCE-224 CE) and for to its substantial fortifications has remained in use until 18th century.

“Concurrent to our excavations at the south side of the site, we have conducted a stratigraphical study on the fortification-walls, which till now a number of historical layers dating from Parthian to Safavid dynastic eras have been identified,” he added.

According to the report a continues destruction and construction [of new buildings] on the site [by the Islamic Republic] Agroindustrial Company have caused serious damages to the historical site, which in turn have created numerous problems for archaeologists as well as the historical site. The destruction has been said to have lessened recently.

Fresh Claim About the Origins of Qar-e Shirin’s Khosrow Palace as Islamic

LONDON, (CAIS) -- The director of archaeological research at Qasr-e Shirin renewed an old and obsolete theory that the palace-structure known as the Khosrow Palace (Emārat-e Khosrow) was a 9th century Islamic structure, rather than being Sasanian, reported the Persian Service of ISNA on Monday.

Previously most historians and researchers dated the structure to the Sasanian dynasty, but Yousef Moradi the director of the team at Qasr-e Shirin claimed: “during the last two seasons of archaeological research we have not found any evidence [material culture] to indicate the structure was Sasanian.”

Moradi backed his claim saying: “the first validation for its Islamic origin is that we have not found any Sasanian pottery; secondly, detailed examinations of the discovered bricks show they are typical of 9th century era, and lastly the construction of the halls are similar to Abbasid architecture found in modern Iraq and Syria.”

This is not the first time an archaeologist has misunderstood the date of the structure, due to its similarity to the Abbasid period buildings, forgetting that the Abbasid’s architecture was based on Iranian architecture and in some ways was a continuation of Sasanian building tradition.

His claim however is problematic since all the medieval Iranian and Arab geographers such as Yaqut al-Hamawi report that the structure was built by the Sasanian King Khosrow II, also no historian has ever mentioned that the Abbasids had any base or interest at Qasr-e Shirin to construct a 75,000 square meter ostentatious and costly palatial complex there - moreover the presence of a Chār-Tāqi in the palace’s ground points to its pre-Islamic origin, since erecting a Zoroastrian fire temple by Muslim-Caliphs is unheard of.

Khosrow palace complex is the typical Sasanian arrangement of a domed hall fronted by an iwan, or the basilical hall in Sasanian architecture. Numbers of early European travellers such as Jacques de Morgan, Oscar Reuther and Gertrude Bell in the late 19th century carried out surveys and prepared architectural plans of the Palace. Bell informs us that in producing her survey she was sometimes obliged to make analogies with the better-preserved palace at Ukhaidir in Iraq to fill in the missing parts, of which there were many, and this is why Khosraw's building has such a strong Abassid flavour.

Many experts believe that the Khosrow Palace had been sacked and pillaged by Emperor Heraclius (r. 610-641).

Recently Destroyed Archaeological Site in Khuzestan Province, Believed to be the Lost Partho-Sasanian City of Azem

LONDON, (CAIS) -- Following the recent destruction of part of an archaeological site in Khuzestan province by state controlled Iran’s National Oil Company’s subcontractors, an Iranian archaeologist claimed the site is the location of the lost Partho-Sasanian city of Azem.

The ancient city of Azem was located 35 kilometres east of modern city of Ahvaz, the modern capital city of Khuzestan Province, beside the Gargar River, one of the branches of Karun River. The anciant city believed once had a large population prior to its destruction.

Apparently a pre-Islamic inscription was unearthed during the bulldozing the site which points out to its ancient origin. The language of the inscription whether it was Parthian-Pahlavi or Sasanian-Pahlavi was not disclosed.

According to archaeologist Hamid Reza Farrokh-Ahmadi, the city was mentioned in the ‘Figures of the Climates’ written over 1100 years ago by Iranian Geographer Estakhri.

“Regrettably, ICHHTO does not care about the faith of the site, not understanding that these ancient sites are our national identity, and when they are ignored our identity is threatened”, said Farrokh-Ahmadi speaking to the Persian service of Mehr News agency.

Although the existence of the city in the ancient times is not disputed, but it must have had a different name to what Estakhri stated as Azem; –such as the modern city of Ahvaz, which Estakhri recorded as Horm-Shir. Horm-Shir was a corrupted version of the Sasanian Hormuzd-Ardashir, and the modern name of Ahvaz / Ahwaz, is an anagram of the Old-Persian "Āvāz" and "Āvāja" which appears on Darius the Great' epigraph.

Judge in BC Rail scandal rules no one, including Premier Campbell, is above the law

July 21, 2009
Krog says no one, including Premier Campbell, is above the law
VANCOUVER - Following yesterday's Supreme Court order that Premier Gordon Campbell and his closest advisors produce missing records relevant to the B.C. Rail corruption trial, New Democrat attorney general critic Leonard Krog is calling on the RCMP to launch a full fledged investigation into possible political interference.
Justice Elizabeth Bennett ordered Monday that all email records related to the 2004 sale of B.C. Rail be produced by the premier and his key staff. The ruling follows last week's discovery that a substantial amount of records, dating back to the sale of B.C. Rail, were recently destroyed by government order.
"Someone within government ordered the destruction of possible evidence in a high profile government corruption case," said Krog. "With this ruling, that may constitute a criminal act.
"We need to know who made the order, whether the premier and his staff were involved, what emails were destroyed, what emails still exist and who will be held responsible if there was a cover-up. This is a serious and possibly criminal offense."
Krog says the destruction of government emails raises some serious questions about how the Campbell government conducts its affairs.
"As legal experts and public commentators have noted, the apparent destruction of relevant records has undermined public trust in our government. I believe an investigation as I have proposed is fundamental to get to the bottom of this," said Krog.

Clinton warns Iran, N. Korea about nuclear ambitions

The U.S. could beef up the military capacity of its Persian Gulf allies if Iran continues to develop its military program, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
Clinton, in Thailand for a two-day security conference to discuss North Korea and a range of other regional issues with her Asian counterparts, also warned North Korea that it faces further isolation over its nuclear program.
Clinton, who appeared Wednesday morning on a Thai TV talk show in Bangkok, addressed Iran's nuclear program. She cautioned the U.S will take "crippling action" to upgrade the defence of their allies in the Persian Gulf region if Tehran gets a nuclear bomb.
"We want Iran to calculate what I think is a fair assessment: that if the United States extends a defence umbrella over the region, if we do even more to develop the military capacity of those [allies] in the Gulf, it is unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer because they won't be able to intimidate and dominate as they apparently believe they can once they have a nuclear weapon," Clinton said.
'I think that's a mistake'
But Dan Meridor, Israel's minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy, told Army Radio that Clinton's statement suggests the U.S believes a nuclear Iran is a done deal.
"I was not thrilled to hear the American statement from yesterday that they will protect their allies with a nuclear umbrella, as if they have already come to terms with a nuclear Iran. I think that's a mistake," he said.
Later, at a news conference in Phuket, Clinton said North Korea would face "the unrelenting pressure" of international sanctions if it did not end its nuclear weapons program.
"We have made it very clear to the North Koreans that if they will agree to irreversible denuclearization that the United States, as well as our partners, will move forward on a package of incentive and opportunities — including normalizing relations — that will give the people of North Korea a better future."
Clinton said China, Japan, Russia and South Korea agree with Washington on the core goal of irreversibly ending North Korea's nuclear program.
"We do not want to be in another negotiation that doesn't move us toward the goal of denuclearization," she said. "So we want verifiable, irreversible steps taken."With files from The Associated Press

Russia, Ahmadinejad and Iran Reconsidered

Iranian Elections 2009
At Friday prayers July 17 at Tehran University, the influential cleric and former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani gave his first sermon since Iran’s disputed presidential election and the subsequent demonstrations. The crowd listening to Rafsanjani inside the mosque was filled with Ahmadinejad supporters who chanted, among other things, “Death to America” and “Death to China.” Outside the university common grounds, anti-Ahmadinejad elements — many of whom were blocked by Basij militiamen and police from entering the mosque — persistently chanted “Death to Russia.”
Death to America is an old staple in Iran. Death to China had to do with the demonstrations in Xinjiang and the death of Uighurs at the hands of the Chinese. Death to Russia, however, stood out. Clearly, its use was planned before the protesters took to the streets. The meaning of this must be uncovered. To begin to do that, we must consider the political configuration in Iran at the moment.
The Iranian Political Configuration
There are two factions claiming to speak for the people. Rafsanjani represents the first faction. During his sermon, he spoke for the tradition of the founder of the Islamic republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who took power during the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Rafjsanjani argued that Khomeini wanted an Islamic republic faithful to the will of the people, albeit within the confines of Islamic law. Rafsanjani argued that he was the true heir to the Islamic revolution. He added that Khomeini’s successor — the current supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — had violated the principles of the revolution when he accepted that Rafsanjani’s archenemy, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had won Iran’s recent presidential election. (There is enormous irony in foreigners describing Rafsanjani as a moderate reformer who supports greater liberalization. Though he has long cultivated this image in the West, in 30 years of public political life it is hard to see a time when he has supported Western-style liberal democracy.)
The other faction is led by Ahmadinejad, who takes the position that Rafsanjani in particular — along with the generation of leaders who ascended to power during the first phase of the Islamic republic — has betrayed the Iranian people. Rather than serving the people, Ahmadinejad claims they have used their positions to become so wealthy that they dominate the Iranian economy and have made the reforms needed to revitalize the Iranian economy impossible. According to Ahmadinejad’s charges, these elements now blame Ahmadinejad for Iran’s economic failings when the root of these failings is their own corruption. Ahmadinejad claims that the recent presidential election represents a national rejection of the status quo. He adds that claims of fraud represent attempts by Rafsanjani — who he portrays as defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi’s sponsor — and his ilk to protect their positions from Ahmadinejad.
Iran is therefore experiencing a generational dispute, with each side claiming to speak both for the people and for the Khomeini tradition. There is the older generation — symbolized by Rafsanjani — that has prospered during the last 30 years. Having worked with Khomeini, this generation sees itself as his true heir. Then, there is the younger generation. Known as “students” during the revolution, this group did the demonstrating and bore the brunt of the shah’s security force counterattacks. It argues that Khomeini would be appalled at what Rafsanjani and his generation have done to Iran.
This debate is, of course, more complex than this. Khamenei, a key associate of Khomeini, appears to support Ahmadinejad’s position. And Ahmadinejad hardly speaks for all of the poor as he would like to claim. The lines of political disputes are never drawn as neatly as we would like. Ultimately, Rafsanjani’s opposition to the recent election did not have as much to do with concerns (valid or not) over voter fraud. It had everything to do with the fact that the outcome threatened his personal position. Which brings us back to the question of why Rafsanjani’s followers were chanting Death to Russia.
Examining the Anomalous Chant
For months prior to the election, Ahmadinejad’s allies warned that the United States was planning a “color” revolution. Color revolutions, like the one in Ukraine, occurred widely in the former Soviet Union after its collapse, and these revolutions followed certain steps. An opposition political party was organized to mount an electoral challenge to the establishment. Then, an election occurred that was either fraudulent or claimed by the opposition as having been fraudulent. Next, widespread peaceful protests against the regime (all using a national color as the symbol of the revolution) took place, followed by the collapse of the government through a variety of paths. Ultimately, the opposition — which was invariably pro-Western and particularly pro-American — took power.
Moscow openly claimed that Western intelligence agencies, particularly the CIA, organized and funded the 2004-2005 Orange Revolution in Ukraine. These agencies allegedly used nongovernmental organizations (human rights groups, pro-democracy groups, etc.) to delegitimize the existing regime, repudiate the outcome of the election regardless of its validity and impose what the Russians regarded as a pro-American puppet regime. The Russians saw Ukraine’s Orange Revolution as the break point in their relationship with the West, with the creation of a pro-American, pro-NATO regime in Ukraine representing a direct attack on Russian national security. The Americans argued that to the contrary, they had done nothing but facilitate a democratic movement that opposed the existing regime for its own reasons, demanding that rigged elections be repudiated.
In warning that the United States was planning a color revolution in Iran, Ahmadinejad took the Russian position. Namely, he was arguing that behind the cover of national self-determination, human rights and commitment to democratic institutions, the United States was funding an Iranian opposition movement on the order of those active in the former Soviet Union. Regardless of whether the opposition actually had more votes, this opposition movement would immediately regard an Ahmadinejad win as the result of fraud. Large demonstrations would ensue, and if they were left unopposed the Islamic republic would come under threat.
In doing this, Ahmadinejad’s faction positioned itself against the actuality that such a rising would occur. If it did, Ahmadinejad could claim that the demonstrators were — wittingly or not — operating on behalf of the United States, thus delegitimizing the demonstrators. In so doing, he could discredit supporters of the demonstrators as not tough enough on the United States, a useful charge against Rafsanjani, whom the West long has held up as an Iranian moderate.
Interestingly, while demonstrations were at their height, Ahmadinejad chose to attend — albeit a day late — a multinational Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference in Moscow on the Tuesday after the election. It was very odd that he would leave Iran during the greatest postelection unrest; we assumed he had decided to demonstrate to Iranians that he didn’t take the demonstrations seriously.
The charge that seems to be emerging on the Rafsanjani side is that Ahmadinejad’s fears of a color revolution were not simply political, but were encouraged by the Russians. It was the Russians who had been talking to Ahmadinejad and his lieutenants on a host of issues, who warned him about the possibility of a color revolution. More important, the Russians helped prepare Ahmadinejad for the unrest that would come — and given the Russian experience, how to manage it. Though we speculate here, if this theory is correct, it could explain some of the efficiency with which Ahmadinejad shut down cell phone and other communications during the postelection unrest, as he may have had Russian advisers.
Rafsanjani’s followers were not shouting Death to Russia without a reason, at least in their own minds. They are certainly charging that Ahmadinejad took advice from the Russians, and went to Russia in the midst of political unrest for consultations. Rafsanjani’s charge may or may not be true. Either way, there is no question that Ahmadinejad did claim that the United States was planning a color revolution in Iran. If he believed that charge, it would have been irrational not to reach out to the Russians. But whether or not the CIA was involved, the Russians might well have provided Ahmadinejad with intelligence of such a plot and helped shape his response, and thereby may have created a closer relationship with him.
How Iran’s internal struggle will work itself out remains unclear. But one dimension is shaping up: Ahmadinejad is trying to position Rafsanjani as leading a pro-American faction intent on a color revolution, while Rafsanjani is trying to position Ahmadinejad as part of a pro-Russian faction. In this argument, the claim that Ahmadinejad had some degree of advice or collaboration with the Russians is credible, just as the claim that Rafsanjani maintained some channels with the Americans is credible. And this makes an internal dispute geopolitically significant.
The Iranian Struggle in a Geopolitical Context
At the moment, Ahmadinejad appears to have the upper hand. Khamenei has certified his re-election. The crowds have dissipated; nothing even close to the numbers of the first few days has since materialized. For Ahmadinejad to lose, Rafsanjani would have to mobilize much of the clergy — many of whom are seemingly content to let Rafsanjani be the brunt of Ahmadinejad’s attacks — in return for leaving their own interests and fortunes intact. There are things that could bring Ahmadinejad down and put Rafsanjani in control, but all of them would require Khamenei to endorse social and political instability, which he will not do.
If the Russians have in fact intervened in Iran to the extent of providing intelligence to Ahmadinejad and advice to him during his visit on how to handle the postelection unrest (as the chants suggest), then Russian influence in Iran is not surging — it has surged. In some measure, Ahmadinejad would owe his position to Russian warnings and advice. There is little gratitude in the world of international affairs, but Ahmadinejad has enemies, and the Russians would have proved their utility in helping contain those enemies.
From the Russian point of view, Ahmadinejad would be a superb asset — even if not truly under their control. His very existence focuses American attention on Iran, not on Russia. It follows, then, that Russia would have made a strategic decision to involve itself in the postelection unrest, and that for the purposes of its own negotiations with Washington, Moscow will follow through to protect the Iranian state to the extent possible. The Russians have already denied U.S. requests for assistance on Iran. But if Moscow has intervened in Iran to help safeguard Ahmadinejad’s position, then the potential increases for Russia to provide Iran with the S-300 strategic air defense systems that it has been dangling in front of Tehran for more than a decade.
If the United States perceives an entente between Moscow and Tehran emerging, then the entire dynamic of the region shifts and the United States must change its game. The threat to Washington’s interests becomes more intense as the potential of a Russian S-300 sale to Iran increases, and the need to disrupt the Russian-Iranian entente would become all the more important. U.S. influence in Iran already has declined substantially, and Ahmadinejad is more distrustful and hostile than ever of the United States after having to deal with the postelection unrest. If a Russian-Iranian entente emerges out of all this — which at the moment is merely a possibility, not an imminent reality — then the United States would have some serious strategic problems on its hands.
Revisiting Assumptions on Iran
For the past few years, STRATFOR has assumed that a U.S. or Israeli strike on Iran was unlikely. Iran was not as advanced in its nuclear program as some claimed, and the complexities of any attack were greater than assumed. The threat of an attack was thus a U.S. bargaining chip, much as Iran’s nuclear program itself was an Iranian bargaining chip for use in achieving Tehran’s objectives in Iraq and the wider region. To this point, our net assessment has been accurate.
At this point, however, we need to stop and reconsider. If Iran and Russia begin serious cooperation, Washington’s existing dilemma with Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its ongoing standoff with the Russians would fuse to become a single, integrated problem. This is something the United States would find difficult to manage. Washington’s primary goal would become preventing this from happening.
Ahmadinejad has long argued that the United States was never about to attack Iran, and that charges by Rafsanjani and others that he has pursued a reckless foreign policy were groundless. But with the Death to Russia chants and signaling of increased Russian support for Iran, the United States may begin to reconsider its approach to the region.
Iran’s clerical elite does not want to go to war. They therefore can only view with alarm the recent ostentatious transiting of the Suez Canal into the Red Sea by Israeli submarines and corvettes. This transiting did not happen without U.S. approval. Moreover, in spite of U.S. opposition to expanded Israeli settlements and Israeli refusals to comply with this opposition, U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will be visiting Israel in two weeks. The Israelis have said that there must be a deadline on negotiations with Iran over the nuclear program when the next G-8 meeting takes place in September; a deadline that the G-8 has already approved. The consequences if Iran ignores the deadline were left open-ended.
All of this can fit into our old model of psychological warfare, as representing a bid to manipulate Iranian politics by making Ahmadinejad’s leadership look too risky. It could also be the United States signaling to the Russians that stakes in the region are rising. It is not clear that the United States has reconsidered its strategy on Iran in the wake of the postelection demonstrations. But if Rafsanjani’s claim of Russian support for Ahmadinejad is true, a massive re-evaluation of U.S. policy could ensue, assuming one hasn’t already started — prompting a reconsideration of the military option.
All of this assumes that there is substance behind a mob chanting “Death to Russia.” There appears to be, but of course, Ahmadinejad’s enemies would want to magnify that substance to its limits and beyond. This is why we are not ready to simply abandon our previous net assessment of Iran, even though it is definitely time to rethink it.
