Canada was the first country that understood to prevent another nation to violate its sovereignty, it would be for its best interest to have public broadcasting. Canada was particularly concern about the US influence in Canada as it decided to implement public broadcasting infrastructure to prevent US invasion of Canada by means of broadcasting and Canada did not allow broadcasting become privatized. It can be said confidently that media plays a major role in shaping public opinion. A question comes to mind that why recently Hollywood has shifted its movie themes from action movies to spiritual movies. Is there something that people should know? I remember prior to 9/11, Hollywood was making movies like "Swordfish" and other movies that they were depicting the US government in dark light. The US government was involved in some sort of plans to destroy buildings in the US so a few would make financial gains from atrocities.
Therefore, it is reasonable to think that there is something in heart and mind of people in Hollywood that they want to share with others which has direct ties with the White House's domestic and foreign policies.
